“I am a visual thinker, not a language-based thinker. My brain is like Google Images.”
(Temple Grandin)
We developed our art program with a contemporary artistic approach, specifically for people living with autism. The art sessions shed light on the world of people living with autism that is otherwise hard to reach, and give them new opportunities in our world.
Milestones
Hajnalka Tarr, a local artist, started these art therapy sessions in 2010 for two autistic housing facilities in Miskolc. Today, the program has expanded significantly, and Autistic Art therapy programs are used in 6 facilities.
The basic aim of the program is to be therapeutic and foster creativity. We have discovered several gifted autistic artists who cannot live independently but who have extraordinary visual talent.
Since 2010, hundreds of pieces of art, some created in the art therapy program and some the work of outside artists who donate to Autistic Art, go up for auction at the yearly gala. The money from auction sales goes to support the housing facilities.
We believe that the most important effect we have is to create awareness and showcase the talents of these autistic artists. This is why we try our best to show the strengths as well as the weaknesses of people living with autism. Their artworks don’t differ much from contemporary art galleries, art fairs or museums. Our creators have had exhibitions in the Hungarian National Gallery and at Art Market Budapest among other places.
Our Autistic Art collection consists of more than 10,000 pieces.
The best drawings have been used on Autistic Art products since 2014.
